We often imagine self care looking like you’re supposed to be having bubble baths, while someone feeds you grapes and cools your body off with palm fronds with sounds of the waves crashing in the background drowned by elevator music.
But, no, although, I know you are surely deserving of it.
From your baby/toddler nursing on demand or your children wanting your undivided attention as they call your name, “Mom, Mom, Mom” fifty million times to seek your undivided attention to only not give you there own.
Self care is also finding those short and sweet moments that are just for you and sometimes shared. You, the person who grew an entire human in your body, are the one primarily responsible. Your baby/toddler is getting plenty of attention and care, but don’t forget to care for yourself as well.
Just as on an airplane, they tell you to give oxygen to yourself before your child. Take that to heart and remember that if you’re needing a recharge allowing yourself to give it, is the most selfless act; not the most selfish.
Mama’s guilt themselves from giving themselves adequate attention. Guilt for not doing it all alone. Guilt for thinking of taking time for themselves. Guilt for feeling emotional. Guilt for wanting time to recharge.
Nourishing and refueling yourself allows you to be a better mother, parent, partner and individual.
Do what you can to practice self-care and remember that getting help does not mean you are a bad Mom and accepting help doesn’t make you less than.
